In February, there are 10 regulatory deadlines on the horizon - with 3 requiring a response this month, and 3 to be aware of coming into effect.

What are the regulatory deadlines to watch in February?

Denmark

February 6, 2024 marks the end of the standstill period at the European Commission on Denmark’s proposal to amend the Gambling Act. The includes improved sanction options, authority for increased data processing, changed fees for slot machines and various adjustments to the gaming area. The bill also includes amendments to the Gambling Act to ensure strengthened efforts against match-fixing and enhanced powers for the Danish Gambling Authority.��

Peru

Regulations for the implementation and regulation of online gambling come into effect on February 10, 2024. gives the Ministry of Foreign Trade and Tourism (MINCETUR) the authority to license and regulate online gaming and sports betting. Among others, the regulations address technological standards, advertising restrictions, and responsible gambling provisions. Notably, MINCETUR has also announced that it will start accepting applications for online gaming and sports betting on February 13, 2024.��

Maine

The deadline to submit comments on to Maine’s advance deposit wagering (ADW) regulations is February 16, 2024. Under the proposed changes, ADW operators must  "retain a copy of all advertising, marketing, branding and other promotional materials promoting or intended to promote any ADW, including a log of when, how, and with whom, those materials have been published, aired, displayed or disseminated,  for three years." Operators must also make disclosures to the Maine Gambling Control Unit about all social media platforms they advertise on. The proposed changes also prohibit advertising that targets minors and patrons with gambling problems.��

UK

The on proposed changes to Licence Conditions and Codes of Practice (LCCP) and Remote Gambling and Software Technical Standards (RTS) will come to an end on February 21, 2024. The consultation package includes the second set of proposed changes to the regulatory framework required to implement the Gambling Commission’s , published in April 2023. The regulator has invited comments on the following areas of reform: implementation of socially responsible incentives, customer-led tools, improved transparency on customer funds in the event of insolvency, changes to the frequency of regulatory returns submissions, and removing obsolete Commission requirements due to the government;s upcoming statutory levy.��

Ontario

On February 28, 2024, to the Registrar’s Standards for Internet Gaming will take effect. The revised standards prohibit registered Ontario iGaming operators from using athletes, whether active or retired in iGaming marketing and advertising, except for the exclusive purpose of advocating for responsible gambling practices. The amended standards also restrict the use of celebrities, role models, social media influencers, entertainers, cartoon figures and symbols that “would likely be expected to appeal to minors.”
